Is the domestic number one electric car maker Tata Motors bringing back the Nano car? Expectations are rife in the market that Tata Group will launch Nano EV, the dream car of legendary industrialist Ratan Tata, the world’s cheapest car, especially in the face of growing demand for electric cars.
According to the latest media reports, Tata Motors is reviving the Nano project. Reports also suggest that if plans to bring back the Nano EV come to fruition, Tata may resume talks with the Tamil Nadu government regarding the purchase of Ford’s Maraimalainagar plant.
However, due to lack of sales, the production of the Nano car has been stopped from 2019. Tata is planning to launch an electric model of the Nano, which was made available in 2008 for just one lakh rupees, with the slogan of being a car for everyone in the country. However, the company has yet to officially respond to this news.
While Tata Motors is the market leader in this segment with more than 80 percent market share. Currently, Tata is offering EVs like Nexon, Tigor and Tiago.
To maintain its lead in the EV segment, it plans to launch more electric cars in the near future. The plan is to launch ten electric cars in the next five years. It is known that concept electric cars like Curve and Avinya have already been showcased.
